Optomel completes DASA funded project into breakthrough optical filter technology

June 2020

Optomel successfully completes a Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA, UK MoD) Emerging Innovations project into next generation optical filter technology.

Optical filters are a key enabling component of almost any system or device using light. Working with scientists from the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL, UK MoD) the project demonstrated exciting breakthroughs in optical filter materials:

Flexible laser protection filters that, unlike existing technology, are rapidly and precisely customisable in the range 350nm to 1100nm+;

Cost-effective, variablemulti- and hyperspectral imaging filters;

Large-area, exceptionally thin (< 20um) lightweight and flexible materials;

Compatibility with a variety of engineering plastics;

Conformable filters suitable for complex shapes (e.g. eye protection) with standard thermoforming processing.

Optomel is commercialising our proprietary approach in partnership with  customers, supported by global patent applications. We are also engaging strategic partners and system integrators to accelerate development and access new markets.
